Erik Warkenthin

The guitarist and lutenist Erik Warkenthin got his first musical education in violin at the age of seven. Only as an adolescent did he change to playing the guitar and was taught at the music school in Stralsund. Afterwards he began his studies to become a professional guitar player at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Rostock with Gerald Handrick and continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik „Franz Liszt“ in Weimar. There, he finished his musical diploma under the tutelage of Prof. M. Rost with distinction. During his time as a student he participated in various master classes. Since then Erik Warkenthin plays as lutenist in opera performances, Renaissance courses and dances and is one of the founding members of the ensemble The Playfords. He works as a solist, chamber musician and teacher.
